The Jazzmaster—the first Fender guitar with a rosewood fingerboard—was designed for the jazz market, but while jazz guitarists never adopted it, it was soon a hit with surf guitarists. The Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic is a cool nod to the offset original and all the surf, rock, punk, postpunk and alt/indie music it has contributed to on stages far and wide. It wears a perfectly worn Journeyman Relic® lacquer finish on its two-piece select alder body, and the rift-sawn maple neck features a ’62 “Jazzmaster C” profile, 9.5”-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard and 21 medium vintage (47095) frets. The Custom Shop hand-wound Jazzmaster pickups are wound to vintage spec and produce a distinct mellow tone. Vintage wiring includes a three-way toggle switch and two separate volume/tone controls with a lead/rhythm switch. Other features include a four-ply brown shell pickguard, RSD J-Bridge with compensated brass saddles, vintage-style tuning machines and a bone nut. Also includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.
This Relic lacquer-finish beauty showcases the very best of the what the 1950s had to offer, with the compelling addition of several special features and three beautiful custom colors. The two-piece select alder body features deep body contours for perfect comfort, and “dirty” finish checking—a finely detailed feature that normally takes years to achieve naturally but is conjured by our magicians in the Custom Shop relic department in far less time.
Other features include an 11-hole parchment pickguard, Custom Shop vintage-style synchronized tremolo, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut, and single wing string tree. Also includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity. The one-piece rift-sawn maple neck sports a ’54 soft “V” profile, 9.5”-radius fingerboard and 21 jumbo (6100) frets. Hand-wound Fat ’50s pickups (with reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup) produce fatter ’50s-style tone, with five-way switching and Fat ’50s wiring that produces stronger tone and more transparent bloom.
